Working With Us

Harrogate and District NHS Foundation Trust is one of only two trusts in Yorkshire and Humber to be awarded the Health Service Journal’s Top 100 Best Places to Work. We believe there are lots of things that make the Trust one of the best places to work.

Staff health, wellbeing and benefits

In our 2014 staff survey, we ranked in the top 20 per cent for staff engagement. We are committed to our staff and support them through our benefits, health and wellbeing initiatives, and opportunities for personal and professional development.

Our staff members are able to access a range of discounts with both local and national partners. Work for Harrogate and District NHS Foundation Trust and save money on:

  • Restaurants and days out
  • Gym memberships
  • Entertainment
  • Holidays and short breaks
  • Phones and utilities
Annual leave

Staff members are entitled to 27 days annual leave plus bank holidays. This entitlement increases to 29 days after five years of service and 33 days after 10 years of service.

Car lease

We are able to offer staff access to car lease schemes through salary sacrifice, meaning staff can make savings on tax and National Insurance.

Health and wellbeing

We believe that we should look after our staff and their health and wellbeing, and that by doing so they will be best placed to provide safe and excellent care for our patients. We have the following initiatives in place to support our staff:

  • Cycle to work scheme
  • Counselling
  • Discounted gym memberships
Flexible working

We believe that flexible working should be offered wherever possible in order to provide a seven day service to our patients and to accommodate a work/life balance for our staff. Flexible working can be used in many different ways to meet the needs of staff and services.

Opportunities may include:

  • Part-time roles
  • Job sharing
  • Flexi-time
  • Compressed hours
  • Career breaks
  • Home/agile working
Personal and professional development

At Harrogate and District NHS Foundation Trust we believe that You Matter Most, so we support our staff throughout their NHS career with us. We provide extensive training, development and career progression opportunities, such as:

  • Preceptorships
  • Mentorship
  • Access to training programmes
  • Manager training for all new line managers
  • Appraisals
  • Apprenticeships
  • Clinical skills training
Staff awards

We aim to show our staff recognition on a day-to-day basis by providing supportive and encouraging working environments. We also hold several events during the year to formally demonstrate our appreciation of our staff members’ hard work and commitment to the Trust.

  • Long Service Awards: staff who have worked for the Trust for 25, 35 and 40 years are presented with a gift at an annual ceremony;
  • Annual Awards and Christmas Oscars: during the Christmas period, we give awards to the most festive ward/department, most festive member of staff, and volunteer of the year.
