Harrogate and District NHS Foundation Trust is one of only two trusts in Yorkshire and Humber to be awarded the Health Service Journal’s Top 100 Best Places to Work. We employ more than 4,500 staff across North Yorkshire and beyond, providing community services from Scarborough to Skipton, children’s services across the North East and hospital-based services at Harrogate District Hospital and Ripon Community Hospital.

What we do

As a Trust that has recently achieved a grade Good with Outstanding care for patients by the CQC, we strive for excellence in all areas. Our Emergency Department is consistently rated as one of the top-performing Emergency Departments in the country (NHS England), with patient wait times ranking well above National Average. We pride ourselves on putting patients first, and recently achieved joint first out of 136 Trusts in the 2017 CQC Patient Survey for patient satisfaction, with our attention to respect and dignity being particularly valued.

As a partner in the What Matters To Us Harrogate and Rural District Vanguard, Harrogate and District NHS Foundation Trust is developing an innovative new model of care, which will enable patients to be cared for closer to home and reduce their need to attend our Emergency Department. We will do this by working within the community in multidisciplinary teams comprising GPs, nursing staff, social care, occupational therapy, physiotherapy, mental health and the voluntary sector.

Our staff body is highly valued, and we go to great lengths to ensure that all staff, whether experienced or newly qualified, feel supported, encouraged and developed during their time with the Trust. Annual leave

Staff members are entitled to 27 days annual leave plus bank holidays. This entitlement increases to 29 days after five years of service and 33 days after 10 years of service.

Car lease

We are able to offer staff access to car lease schemes through salary sacrifice, meaning staff can make savings on tax and National Insurance.

Health and well-being

We believe that we should look after our staff and their health and wellbeing, and that by doing so they will be best placed to provide safe and excellent care for our patients. We have the following initiatives in place to support our staff:

  • Long Service Awards: staff who have worked for the Trust for 25, 35 and 40 years are presented with a gift at an annual ceremony;
  • Annual Awards and Christmas Oscars: during the Christmas period, we give awards to the most festive ward/department, most festive member of staff, and volunteer of the year.
